Rocky Banks - Solo sailor's rudder fails off Cape Point; yacht towed to safety overnightSailing yacht/2026/—/Rudder failure offshore

On a weekend in mid-March 2026, a single-handed yachtsman's rudder failed about 15 nautical miles south of Cape Point, near Rocky Banks, leaving his sailing yacht adrift. NSRI Simon's Town launched the rescue craft Donna Nicholas, found the sailor safe, rigged a towline and — in an operation running into the night — towed the yacht to Simon's Town. There were no injuries.
